BUILD THE RIGHT HABITS
BEFORE THE WRONG ONES FORM.
A lot of owners wait too long and then have to undo bad habits. This program builds the puppy correctly from the start — structure, communication, and obedience that grows with your dog.
THE WINDOW IS OPEN NOW
Puppies are not blank slates for long. Every day without structure is a day they are learning something — and it may not be what you want them to learn. The habits formed in the first months are the hardest to change later.
Early training is not about drilling commands. It is about building a relationship built on clear communication, trust, and leadership — so your dog grows up knowing what is expected and how to succeed.
The Puppy Development program is built around the same DoD Teach-Train-Proof methodology used in every program we run. The standards do not get lowered because the dog is young.
Who is this for?
Puppies from approximately 8 weeks to around 6 months. If your puppy is older, they may be a better fit for our Lightweight Board & Train. We assess at evaluation and recommend the right path.
What format is available?
Board & Train (your puppy stays with us) or Private Lessons (you work alongside your puppy). We recommend the best fit at evaluation based on your puppy and your goals.
What happens after training?
Owner coaching is built into every program. We send you home with the tools, the knowledge, and the system to maintain what your puppy learned. Your consistency at home determines the long-term result.
SKILLS BUILT IN THE PUPPY PROGRAM
Specific focus depends on your puppy's age, temperament, and goals. Every program is built around the dog in front of us.
Sit
The first command. Taught clearly with marker timing so the puppy understands exactly what earns the reward.
Down
A calm, controlled position. Built with patience and duration so it becomes a reliable settling behavior.
Come
Recall foundation. Taught correctly from the start — not called repeatedly until the puppy learns to ignore it.
Heel Foundations
Early leash position work. Teaching the puppy to walk with you, not against you, before bad habits form.
Place
Go to a spot and hold it. One of the most practical commands for managing behavior at home.
Crate Structure
The crate is a tool, not a punishment. We build positive crate habits that reduce anxiety and give the puppy a safe space.
Potty Routine Support
Consistent schedule, clear signals, and structure that makes house training faster and less frustrating.
Engagement
Teaching the puppy to check in with you, pay attention, and want to work with you. The foundation of every trained behavior.
Confidence Building
Exposure to new environments, sounds, surfaces, and situations — building a dog that handles the world without falling apart.
Marker / Clicker Foundation
Clear communication through marker training. The puppy learns that a specific sound means "that was right" — making every future command easier to teach.
Leash Introduction
First experiences on leash done right. No dragging, no panic, no bad associations. A calm, positive introduction to the leash.
Exposure
Structured socialization — not just "let the puppy meet everyone." Controlled exposure that builds confidence without creating overwhelm.
WE TRAIN THE PUPPY.
WE COACH YOU.
A trained puppy with an untrained owner regresses. Owner coaching is not optional — it is built into every program. You leave knowing exactly how to maintain structure, how to reinforce commands, and how to lead your dog at home.
We cover timing, communication, daily routines, and the specific rules your household needs to maintain what your puppy learned. The goal is not a trained dog — it is a trained dog with an owner who can keep it that way.
- How to reinforce commands at home
- Daily structure and routine guidance
- Crate and potty routine support
- How to handle setbacks without undoing progress
- Clear rules for every member of the household
"A lot of owners wait too long and then have to undo bad habits. This program builds the puppy correctly from the start."
The habits your puppy builds in the first months are the habits they carry for life. Early structure is not about control — it is about setting your dog up to succeed.
MISTAKES THAT COST YOU LATER
Waiting until the dog is older to start training
Bad habits form fast. The longer you wait, the more you have to undo. A lot of owners wait too long and then have to undo bad habits — this program builds the puppy correctly from the start.
Letting puppies get away with things "because they're cute"
A 10-pound puppy jumping on people becomes a 70-pound problem. The behavior that is cute at 8 weeks is the behavior you will be correcting at 2 years.
Inconsistent rules between family members
Puppies need clarity. Mixed signals create confused, anxious dogs. Everyone in the household needs to follow the same rules.
Skipping crate training
Crate training builds independence, reduces anxiety, and gives your puppy a safe space. Skipping it creates separation anxiety and house training problems.
Over-socializing without structure
"Let the puppy meet everyone" is not socialization — it is chaos. Uncontrolled exposure creates dogs that are either reactive or over-stimulated.
